There are many reasons for cremation

Some are personal, others are ecological or economic

Not only the personal interests of people in making their last journey an individual one are an argument in favour of cremation as possibly the most future-proof form of burial there is.

From an economic point of view fewer and fewer people will be able in future to afford a conventional earth burial. The space in conventional cemeteries will become increasingly scarce, real estate prices, particularly in conurbations and international big cities will grow rapidly and the costs for the upkeep of graves are permanently rising as well. Together with people’s increasing mobility this becomes a problem. Who still lives in the same place as their parents and grandparents these days?
In these circumstances grave upkeep quickly becomes expensive for the bereaved family, if they live in a different country or maybe even on a different continent.

The problem of real estate costs and capacity is made much worse by the demographic development around the world. In 1960 the worldwide population was approximately 3 billion, in 2000 it was already 6 billion and current calculations extrapolate a population of 12 billion people in the year 2040.
